Mariposa County Tax Assessor-Recorder Tammie Guenthart is running for reelection.
She will hold a meet and greet at Coulterville Park on April 15 at 5:30 p.m.
Be there or be square.
“I am honored to announce my candidacy for Mariposa County Assessor/Recorder as the appointed incumbent,” she said in a press release. “Just over a year ago, I was appointed to serve in this role, and it has been a privilege to carry out the responsibilities of the Assessor/Recorder on behalf of our community.”

She said this position is not driven by politics or opinion. It is governed by state law and oversight from the California Board of Equalization and it requires consistent, accurate application of those laws to ensure fairness, transparency and public trust.
“I have worked for Mariposa County for more than 29 years, including over two decades in the Assessor/Recorder’s Office. I began my career as an assessment/recording clerk and worked my way through every position in the department — Appraiser I, II, and III — before serving as assistant assessor/ recorder and now as assessor/recorder.
“That progression has given me a comprehensive understanding of the office, from daily operations to complex valuation and compliance requirements,” she said.
During her time as assessor/recorder, she has focused on maintaining fair and accurate assessments, ensuring compliance with state regulations, supporting staff training and development and improving communication with property owners. As property valuation and regulatory requirements continue to evolve, experience and institutional knowledge are critical to navigating increasing complexity while maintaining consistency and accuracy, she says.
“Mariposa County is my lifelong home. I was raised here, attended local schools and have remained deeply involved in the community through 4-H, FFA, youth sports, the county fair and more than 15 years of service with the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Posse, including assisting with fire evacuations,” she said. “Public service has always been part of my life, both professionally and personally.”
Leadership, she says, means creating a stable, supportive and accountable work environment where staff are equipped to succeed and the public is served with integrity and respect.
“My commitment is to continue leading the Assessor/Recorder’s Office in a way that reflects the law, the values of our community, and the trust placed in this office. Being appointed to this position was an honor. Running as the incumbent is a commitment to continuity, experience and faithful service. I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Mariposa County as your Assessor/Recorder.”
