THE YEN-YANG of 9-11
By Jim Rhodes –
The “Norman Rockwell” version of the story is best exemplified by the outstanding ceremony put together by the Coulterville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9454 Auxiliary held at the Coulterville Community Park on Friday, Sept. 11, on the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Auxiliary president Nita Gordon, and Auxiliary senior vice president and director of youth programs Lindsay Burtle, planned the 25th memorial program to be more youth orientated with increased community involvement and a focus on education and themes of working together for the common good “as we did on 9-12-2001.”
The well rounded memorial had participants from VFW Auxiliary 6311 (Manteca); Past VFW Auxiliary Department President Sue Wells, and Past California VFW Commander Dennis Wells; Coulterville Cal Fire; Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office Captain Wes Smith; veteran speaker Nick Crockett; and active participation from Lake Don Pedro Girl Scout Troop 2441.
The venue was overwhelmed with cards from students to First Responders and veterans expressing their gratitude for our service.
Captain Smith presented a banner everyone signed that was destined to be sent as a remembrance from Mariposa County to Ground Zero in New York. Both Captain Smith and Nick Crockett gave relevant talks about the need to work with each other to bridge this harmful political divide we currently find ourselves in.
The program closed with a moving version of “Taps” by Lake Don Pedro student Ryder Burtle.
The celebration then adjourned to VFW Post 9454 on Main Street for refreshments and socializing.
Sad Truth
Sadly, there is an underbelly and UGLY TRUTH about 9-11 that, until this year, has always been swept under the rug and ignored by mainstream media and politicians.
For 24 years – as I reported in years past – First Responders were (and are still) being lied to and stonewalled by politicians and government agencies about actual facts, which have been a direct result why so many were unable to receive the medical care they needed, deserved and were entitled to.
On Sept 7 this year, The New York Times did report on the harrowing months that followed the attacks on the World Trade Center and how New Yorkers were repeatedly assured that the air around the fallen towers was safe to breathe. But the new Mamdani administration released more than 170,000 pages of documents related to the air quality around the World Trade Center site in the months after the Sept. 11 attacks, which show that 10 months later, health officials were still finding evidence of asbestos as much as half a mile away, according to a sample of air quality records released.
After 9/11, Documents Suggest, New Yorkers Were Misled About Air Quality

The 9-11 Compensation Eligibility and Exposure Zone and World Trade Center Health Programs mirrored the lies, bogus programs, and stonewalling the government gave to Agent Orange victims and before us our “Atomic veterans.”
This became so bad that in 2007 Michael Moore took a group of ill 9-11 First Responders to Cuba for medical treatment they were unable to acquire in this country because the system ignored and purposely misdiagnosed them. That documentary was titled SICKO and Moore was immediately bashed for being “unamerican.”
Let us think about this for a moment. Moore was “unamerican” because he got neglected 9-11 First Responders medical treatment?
My personal note: myself and other veteran victims of herbicidal poisons ended up in Vietnam to receive medical treatment we were denied in this country. All of us as well, were labeled “unamerican.”
Let’s think about that. Vietnam and Cuba are “socialist” countries that recognizes the fact that every human being on the planet has a right to health care – even former enemies. We, as an alleged Christian nation does not share that belief. Am I the only one who sees a flaw in the commodity based profit driven system “we” promote?
For 24 years politicians and government agencies have willfully lied to victims and continued to cover up the truth. This would still be on-going except Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City and released the 9-11 records creating a backlash against then mayor Giuliani and EPA administrator Christine Todd Whitman, whose public position was “we did the best we could with the information we had at the time.”
These are time proven excuses that have always exonerated our dishonest and corrupt political leaders. I am grateful to see the younger generation rejecting our errors of the past!
For 24 years First Responders have died needlessly because mainstream politicians and government agencies were afraid that reporting the truth “would cost too much money,” while at the same time doling out tax cuts to those who don’t need them, whose revenues would have more than adequately covered the victim’s medical costs.
Their accomplice has become American corporate media, once vanguards of Truth, now lap dogs for special interests.
This is a matter of values. We must determine what kind of country we really want? I am going to strongly suggest, if we want a nation built upon the principles of what Jesus actually taught, we really have to reverse course!
