Staff Report –
There a proposal from Mariposa County that could raise water and sewer rates in Coulterville and sewer rates in Don Pedro.

We are looking into the facts of the situation for a news report to come soon.
There was to be a brief presentation on the county’s proposed water and sewer rate increases followed by a committee meeting to discuss the issue on Saturday, but it was canceled with no attorney involvement.
Those who have been following the situation closely say the recommendation for Coulterville residents is to potentially increase potable water rates to over $300 a month and about $450 a month for sewer.
The eventual (within 3-5 year) consequences of these rate increases could be that people in Coulterville might lose their homes. The county could be legally allowed to foreclose on unpaid utility bills. This is a tragedy in the making.
There is a report about this online at this link.
Board of Supervisors Meeting – April 21, 2026
According to Shannon Poe, Mariposa County District 2 Supervisor, there will be a public meeting in the community park soon to discuss the “proposal.” There has been no vote to approve this, contrary to what some people are saying and posting on Facebook.
