As California gears up for what could be its most vibrant wildflower season in years, Hipcamp has rolled out a new tool to help outdoor lovers time it just right.

The camping platform has introduced a 2026 California Superbloom Forecast—an interactive map built from more than 150,000 research-grade observations logged on iNaturalist between 2021 and 2025. By analyzing when and where blooms have appeared in recent seasons, the tool predicts peak wildflower windows across the state and pairs them with nearby camping options.

Instead of guessing when to hit the road, users can now explore bloom forecasts by month and region, then lock in campsites close to the action.

The timing couldn’t be better. Hipcamp reports a surge in spring bookings tied to wildflower travel. Reservations are up 64% year-over-year in the Death Valley area, 22% around greater San Diego—including Anza-Borrego Desert—and 19% across greater Los Angeles, including the Santa Monica Mountains.

In addition to the online forecast, the Hipcamp app now features a wildflower map layer that overlays bloom “hotspots” directly onto its campsite search map, making it easier to find a place to stay within striking distance of peak color.

With heavy visitation expected, the company is also urging travelers to tread lightly—stick to marked trails, follow closures, pack out trash, and practice Leave No Trace ethics.
